The Friends group was started in Sept 2017 with the aim to improve and tidy up the rat-infested, no-go area of Harrow Weald Recreation Ground, also known as Boxtree Park.
After a short while this small group started to make a difference, by cleaning the park of rubbish, undertaking regular litter picking, reducing fly tipping and carrying out general maintenance. This difference was quickly noticed in the surrounding areas, in more ways than originally intended or planned, and The Friends group grew.
Having community conversations, strolling around the park with complete strangers and picking up lazy people's rubbish, is strangely satisfying and time well spent. Everything our group does is about being nice and sharing, and all projects are aimed at the heart of our parks, local areas and the well being of the local community.
We operate with a can do attitude to everything. Rather than blaming others for any problems in our area, we aim to find solutions and, where possible, to reduce any public costs with sensible research, conversation and action. This has resulted in many areas of the park changing for the good of all.
What we do is healthy, rewarding and fun. We are positive, proactive and respectful to all.
We welcome people of all persuasions and from all walks of life and anyone who believes they have something nice inside them somewhere.
