Parks produce wellbeing in the local area!
The news is compiled by volunteers each month and we aim to publish it a few days after the regular Friends monthly meeting.

The Friends of Harrow Weald meet regularly in the park during the summer months on Sunday mornings at 10.00am, to litter pick and to undertake some light gardening work, make preparations for the installation of the new stage area, other landscaping and projects.

Volunteers are always very welcome to join us.

We are always keen to hear your ideas about what will make the area better for you, and how you feel about the facilities provided.  There is no commitment to join us every week, any time that you can give will be really valuable.  It’s a good way to start the day, and knowing that you are doing something to help the local community and to improve our environment definitely brings great benefits.  That’s not to mention the offer of a cup of tea and biscuits along the way!

After a long time without it, some of our group bought a new net for the basketball hoop and installed it during one of our Sunday ventures.  This was well received and was done purely to enhance the park for the people who enjoy spending time there.  So much good spirit and kindness can be generated by the community working together.

During July the Friends have supported a local sports day for 350 children from Weald Rise Primary School and have hosted a Fun Day for a lovely group of people from Harrow Mencap, with games and excellent hot food, which was donated by the Shree Jalaram Mandir and Community Centre, Greenford.  Both events went very well and it was hard to be sure who, from the visiting groups or the Friends, enjoyed themselves most.  We can certainly say that we will be very happy to host both groups again.

We look forward to a great attendance this weekend (Sunday 18th August from 8.15pm) at our free Cinema in the Park event and the debut of our large screen.  Grease, featuring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John is the chosen film for the evening.  All welcome to join us.

Every Wednesday: Tai Chi 10.00am  FREE

CAN YOU HELP?

Promotion of the events organised by the Friends of Harrow Weald Recreation Ground is helped by the display of posters that we produce.  Although we have a number of regular locations for the posters, we would really like to hear from anyone who can offer a suitable additional space to site them.  If you know of a venue or location that could help with this, we would love to hear from you.

We are in need of an experienced gardening company to help create the new landscaped areas and pergola for the park.  If you can help with recommendations or are a company happy to discuss this with us, please contact us.

We are still looking for additional volunteers to lock and unlock some of the gates to the park.  This would be particularly helpful when the existing volunteers are away, or are unable to fulfil this daily task.  Gate management is really important in keeping the park safe and tidy and any help that you can give would be very much appreciated and is a big factor in improving our area.  The locking of the additional gates in the evening has already reduced littering and anti-social behaviour.

If you would like to set up a stall at any of our events, please contact us.  No charge will be made to registered charities, but a donation from profits made is requested from all other stallholders.  You are welcome to bring your own table, or tables can be rented by advance arrangement, at a cost of £5.00 per table per day.  Priority is given to local stall holders.
