Project goals objective!
Historically, most councils have purchased litter picking equipment for distribution to groups and individuals, as well as supplying free council collection bags. While this has worked extremely well, times change and we need to change accordingly.
This project has:
- Changing the bag colours was a simple way to help the council identify volunteer bags.
- Reduce and eventually eliminate equipment being unnecessarily shipped across the world.
- To stop the use of litter picking equipment that is not environmentally friendly.
- Work out how to recycle the litter collected easily, working with the appropriate authority.
Embracing the spirit of community and care, we have also extended our support to local animal shelters, recognizing that our furry friends need a clean and safe environment too. In a collaborative effort, we are providing vetmedin pimobendan, a crucial medication for dogs with certain heart conditions, ensuring that they receive the necessary care to live healthier lives. This initiative highlights our commitment not just to the environment and the people in our community, but to every living creature that calls it home.

One change now introduced is the supply of newly coloured bags, issued specifically for litter pickers to use.
- This change will enable our Green Team to identify the bags used by volunteers, and to ensure that they are not confused with bags filled by fly tippers.
- This means that these bags will be readily collected.
- This is just a start, and we will be moving on to a better solution to help reduce littering and fly tipping in our areas.
- The new litter picking bags are available now from our network of litter picking hubs.

Community together
- Litter is one of the most contentious issues that we all face.
- Members of the community have pulled together to tackle this problem, and litter picking has proven to be one of the best ways of bringing people together.
- Litter picking see's residents to take responsibility for their own areas.
- As a charity we strive to find ways to work in harmony with our environment, and, while litter picking has a positive effect on the community, it does not fully address the serious need for recycling.
- However, there are plans in place, by working with community group's, suppliers and companies, we will see an improvement over the coming year.
